Mental Health Awareness Month: For Every Stage of Life

Mental health touches every part of life, from work and relationships to community and daily routines, and when challenges arise, access to support plays an important role in overall well-being.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, the focus is on noticing early signs, strengthening the support around us, and responding with care and compassion. It is also an opportunity to reinforce a broader message.
Mental health affects people at every stage of life, from children and families to adults and older adults, with experiences, responsibilities, and life transitions shaping well-being in different ways. Stress, isolation, caregiving, financial pressure, and changing routines can all play a role, reinforcing the importance of connection, support, and access to care for all.
Gambling can affect both mental health and daily life. It is often linked to stress, changes in sleep, and increased pressure on finances and relationships. Because these challenges can also be a part of other concerns, it can be easy to miss when gambling may contribute to the issue.
Some common mental health signs that may be connected include:
- Feeling overwhelmed or under constant stress
- Changes in mood, including irritability or withdrawal
- Increased anxiety or difficulty concentrating
- Trouble sleeping or changes in daily routines
- Feeling isolated or disconnected from others
- Avoiding conversations about finances or responsibilities
These experiences can intersect with gambling-related harm in ways that are not always visible. Knowing these signs may help you ask the right questions and encourage a loved one or friend to seek help.
At the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, we are committed to increasing awareness of gambling as a public health issue, expanding access to services, and supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery.
If you have questions about gambling behaviors for yourself or someone you care about, free and confidential support is available 24 hours a day.
