Training and Continuing Education

Many people affected by Problem Gambling or Gambling Disorder benefit from treatment services offered by specially-trained counselors. The American Psychiatric Association classifies Gambling Disorder as a Non-Substance-Related Addictive Disorder (see the APA’s Diagnostic Statistical Manual, Fifth Edition, DSM-5).

Problem gambling can have devastating impacts on all of these areas: personal finances, individual well-being, family and business relationships, employment, mental health, suicidal thoughts or attempts, and more. Compared to other addictive disorders, problem gambling has the highest rate of suicide attempts. Professionals providing counseling for those negatively impacted by gambling need specialized training to be effective and the Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling provides the training, workshops, and continuing education needed.
