Focus on the Future Session
The Evolution of Motivational Interviewing
As the original developer of motivational interviewing (MI), Dr. Miller will describe its modest atheoretical beginnings and how it has evolved through four editions of the text and more than 40 years of research. With over 2,500 controlled clinical trials, MI is now being studied and practiced in many different cultures, professions, and problem areas. This presentation will overview research on MI outcomes, processes, and training, and will also explore the overlap of MI with effective “nonspecific” counseling skills.
