An introduction to the history and social impact of gambling in the United States and Washington State. Will discuss the induction in the DSM then and now; explore the world of the problem gambler with a multi-dimensional approach to assessment and diagnosis of pathological gambling, including definitions and typology of gamblers, with interactive discussion on the differences/similarities of treatment with alcoholics. Participants will be able to list prevalence rates for adults and youth with problem/pathological gambling; discuss DSM IV criteria for pathological gambling; List and use three tools for screening and assessment of pathological gambling; define two sub-types of pathological gamblers and be able to treat plan each type effectively.
