Problem Gambling Helpline

The ECPG operates a 24-hour, 1-800 Problem Gambling Helpline available toll-free throughout Washington State. For many Problem Gamblers and their loved ones, a call to the Problem Gambling Helpline is often the first step on the road to recovery.

The Helpline provides important services for Problem Gamblers, their
families, their friends, their employers, and others. Callers can receive, at nocharge, Problem Gambling information packets, contacts for Gamblers Anonymous and, upon request, referral to professional treatment services. All calls to the ECPG Helpline are anonymous.

Information Packets

Upon request, ECPG will send callers, at no charge, a packet of informational material on Problem and Pathological Gambling.  This material includes publications about Gamblers Anonymous and Gamanon, information on determining the extent of gambling problems, recovery booklets such as There is Help; Early Signs of Compulsive Gambling; Understanding Compulsive Gambling; When Someone you Love Gambles, and related material.  This information is designed to provide an overview of Problem Gambling issues and suggestions on how to begin the recovery process.  It helps Problem Gamblers in recovery and assists family members addressing Problem Gambling among loved ones.

Gamblers Anonymous Contacts

Callers to the helpline (1-800-547-6133) can receive the contact numbers for the Gamblers Anonymous (GA) meetings in their area.  While ECPG is not affiliated with GA, it maintains a current GA contact list.  Callers requesting GA meeting information will receive meeting hours, meeting locations, and contact numbers for the local GA representative.  This list is updated monthly.

Referral to Professional Treatment

Helpline callers (1-800-547-6133) can receive referral to professional treatment services.  ECPG maintains a referral list of clinicians who are specially trained, experienced, and approved to treat Problem and Pathological Gamblers and their families.

Data Collection

When possible, Helpline operators collect data and information from callers about their gambling problems.  This information, which is provided anonymously, is compiled and used to ascertain the consequences of Problem Gambling.  This information is used to develop future policies and programs addressing Problem Gambling.
