Problem Gambling: Prevalence, Pathology and Treatment

What makes gambling different than other forms of addiction? How is it caused, diagnosed and treated? Are online games like Candy Crush Saga really contributing to the prevalence of problem gambling? Join Kristin West, Outreach Coordinator for The Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, as she explains gambling disorder and looks at why some people become addicted to this socially normalized activity. Treatment, new technology and the changing face of what a “gambling addict” looks like will be covered. The high co-occurrence rate of problem gambling among populations with substance use and anxiety disorders means many treatment providers are seeing problem gamblers and not addressing the separate addiction. West will also discuss the process to become a certified problem gambling counselor, and the employment climate for treatment professionals in Washington State.
