Legacy of Commitment

Chuck Maurer

Dr.-Chuck-Maurer-Color-Low-ResYou are no doubt familiar with the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Well, the same can be said for non-profits as well. ECPG has been able to flourish thanks to the hard work and commitment of our supporters.

We wanted to take a moment to honor one supporter whose dedication to our mission has really stood out over the years. That is why this year we were honored to present Chuck Maurer with the Legacy of Commitment Award.

We cannot say enough good things about Chuck, but don’t just take our word for it! Here’s what one of Chuck’s colleagues had to say about him.

I have had the great honor and pleasure to work closely with Chuck for the past several years, both as board members of the National Council on Problem Gambling and as colleagues in our sister state councils.

I have constantly been amazed at his selflessness in volunteering to be an exceptional leader and pioneer in our field always focused on ensuring, improving, and providing services to the problem gambler and their families.

It is because of him, and people like him, that our field has become more professional and the illness of problem gambling legitimized, enabling more and more people to accept and seek effective treatment.

Chuck had a huge professional and personal influence on me.  He steered NCPG through a difficult but vital restructuring with his trademark composure and commonsense approach.  Chuck was a tireless and fearless leader who was at the forefront of most of NCPG’s major projects and issues—from the National Helpline in the mid-1980s to our 2015-2020 strategic Plan.  He worked tirelessly and fearlessly with tremendous personal integrity and dedication.
